Clear Book Bag Safety and Use
Many schools are requiring the use of clear book bags to help view the contents which they carry. Using a see-through book bag provides an additional accountability measure for students and allows administrators a quick means of checking for compliance. No one change will ensure school safety, but the accumulative effect of several sways the odds in our favor. Remember Ronald Regan’s words “Trust but verify”.
Several medical associations have recommendations to limit book bag weight to 10-15 percent of a child’s body weight, to reduce medical problems that could result from carrying heavier loads.
For proper use of book bags:- Wear both straps. Use of one strap causes one side of the body to bear the weight of the book bag. This can be true even with one-strap backpacks that cross the body.
- Remove and put on backpacks carefully. Avoid excessive twisting.
- The book bag should be worn close to the back and in the center.
- Keep it light. Organize the contents of the book bag by placing the heaviest items closest to your back.
Remember... NEVER put your child's name on the outside or public view area of the book bag!
